Investigators Challenge
“When a famous influencer reports her prized necklace missing, two new detectives embark on a race against the clock to discover the truth. As they dig deeper into the lives of the suspects – her envious roommate and herself – they soon realize that appearance can be deceiving, leading to an unexpected revelation that turns their investigation on its head.”
The investigators Challenge is an interactive immersive story about a stolen necklace, to teach children about framing, algorithms, and social media bubbles
I worked on this project during my Minor Creative Storytelling together with Jasper van den Hoek and Fleur Rump for the class: Interactive Storytelling. We were tasked with creating an exposition that incorporated the theme: “(Nothing) Out of the Ordinary.”
We chose children between the ages of 11 and 15 as our targeted audience. We wanted to bring awareness about social media bubbles, algorithms, concepts of perspective, perception, and trust. Because children of these ages are starting with social media.
We created an experience where two students take on the role of new detectives who have to solve the mystery of a stolen necklace. The two main characters of our story were two influencers. This was to trigger our targeted audience with a concept they are familiar with.
As soon as the students enter the experience they are put under pressure to both individually find evidence for who the thief of the necklace is. Both detectives have to go their separate ways and discover different pieces of evidence. One of the detectives is led to believe that one suspect is guilty, while the other one is led to believe it’s the other suspect. At the end of the experience they are confronted by the Police officer who had put them on this job, when he suddenly gets a call that it was all a big misunderstanding and that nobody stole the necklace.
