Nacht van de Nacht is a event once a year to bring awareness to light pollution. All sorts of companies turn their lights off and organize activities. In Fort bij Vechten is a walking route with tiny LED lights. I got asked to add an extra experience to the route. I worked together with Jitte Toebast for this project during our internship at Natuur en Milieufederatie Utrecht, with our coach Mattheus Bleijenberg.
The concept I created was Hidden in the Dark. The original idea was to show a video of what was hidden in the dark and add a scavenger hunt for glowing night animals along side the walking route.
I wanted to bring awareness to turning off the lights and show how pretty the night was. We weren’t allowed to show the original video idea that we wanted to play inside the Fort, therefor we made it a social media video to promote the event and made an other video for inside the fort. This was published as a reel and got 296 views on Instagram.
To promote the light route we also created other social media posts. I did this with an animation video as reel. We also created posts to show our process in making the scavengers hunt. Transition video was filmed by me and edited by Jitte. She also took the foto’s in the end.
The video we eventually played inside the Fort showed all kinds of night animals and video’s of the night sky with stars and the moon. We edited sound underneath it for the extra experience. I edited the videos, Jitte the sound.
For during the event we created a poster to put at the entrance and business cards so that visitors would be aware about the scavenger hunt and how they could win a shirt. If they wanted to win they had to take a picture of their favorite night animal that they saw during the light route and share that on social media with #nachtvdnachtdieren. In the end 8 pictures got shared on social media. Everyone that posted a picture won a shirt and got a wooden mini version of the favorite night animal that they posted.
